Delete mail from the server using Outlook

Keep your mail inbox empty on the server.

Once you have downloaded an email from the mail server into Outlook we recommend removing the email from the server to keep your inbox relatively free so you can continue to receive emails without worrying about using up too much space. By default each email address has a 40mb limit, which is usually enough space for most, but will fill up eventually if not managed (especially if you receive a lot of large attachments). Follow the steps below in Outlook to delete mail on the server.

  • Go to Account Settings.
  • On the Accounts Settings dialog box double click on the email address you want to edit.
  • On the Change E-mail Account dialog box click on the More Settings button.
  • On the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box find the Advanced tab and down the bottom the id a section that says Delivery.
  • Click the tick box that says "Leave a message on the server" in doing this the tick box below it will activate which says "Remove from server after:" click this tick box and specify how many days you want the email to remain on the server after it has been downloaded to you Outlook. A couple of days will be sufficient.
  • Your server inbox will never get full again.
